Friends and Neighbors,
Labor Day has passed (hope yours was
happy and restful), the kids are back at school, and it's starting to
feel like fall. In this newsletter I want to tell you about several
opportunities to get involved. I have a town hall coming up, as well
as delivery of my post-session newsletter. I hope to see you soon at
one of these events:
Town Hall September 21st
Join me, along with Rep. Ben Cannon and
Sen. Jackie Dingfelder, for a joint town hall on Monday, September
21st. The event will run from 6:00-7:30 in the evening,
at the Hollywood Senior Center (1820 NE 40th Ave.) near
Sandy Blvd. This is an important opportunity for us to hear from you
about the 2009 session, and to look ahead at our priorities for the
February 2010 special session. I hope you to see you there!
Newsletter Delivery Opportunities
I'm still looking for more volunteers
to help hand deliver my post-session newsletter. Our plan is to
"literature drop" 20,000 copies of the newsletter door-to-door
from one end of the district to the other. This method of delivery
saves a lot of taxpayer money in postage costs, and gives you a
chance to get involved in your neighborhood. In order for this to
work, I need your help. If you can spare two hours of your time to
deliver 100 newsletters, let us know by replying to this email. Some
of you have already RSVPed and I really appreciate that. If you can,
bring a friend--the more the merrier!
We have two dates on the calendar for
you to come help. If you're not available on these days, we can
still get you some copies of the newsletter to drop in your own
neighborhood, on your own time.
Our first newsletter canvass will be
this Sunday, September 13th at 11 AM. We'll meet up at
the Multnomah County Democrats' headquarters at 3127 NE 67th
(just south of Sandy Blvd.).
The second canvass will be
Saturday, September 19th at 10 AM (same location). We'll
provide you with the newsletters, a map to guide you, and some coffee
to get you going!
Interim Committees Meet This Month
During the interim, legislative
committees will be meeting on a regular basis to hold hearings on
issues and consider potential future legislation. I'm serving on
the interim House Committees on Education, Human Services, and
Workforce Development. The first set of meetings will be held from
Sept. 29 through Oct. 1. You can find the schedule for interim
meetings here, and committee agendas here. As always, contact my
office with any questions about interim issues.
Best,
Michael
